Happy Halloween and a giveaway.

We're having a little bit of controversy here at Mod Podge Command Central.  You see, there is only one red wig with devil horns - and three dogs.  They all want to wear the wig for Halloween.  What am I supposed to do?  I  trust you implicitly, Mod Podge Rocks readers, so I know I can count on you to vote for the pooch that looks the best.  The winning Mod Podge doggie will wear the wig!  Here they are:

Walker

Roxie

Nellie

Before you go, don't forget that I'm having a weekly giveaway.

Rule reminder:
1. Comment on THIS blog entry. Say anything you like!
2. Only one entry per person.
3. Contest will close this Wednesday, November 3rd at midnight (EST).
4. PLEASE leave your e-mail address if it's not attached in Blogger - I need some way to reach you.

Last week's winners of the Mod Podge t-shirt/starter set giveaway were Marcia, Kathryn, Erika, islasmommy and Gina.

Book skeletons, vintage shimmer pumpkin and Halloween thrift store makeovers.

Could it really be that Halloween is tomorrow?  Perhaps it's time to bust out some dog costumes.  You'll find out on the big day what the Mod Podge dogs have chosen to be this year.

Keighley from The Bella Life wasn't so sure about Mod Podge at first.  Not only is she sure about it now, but she's great at it!  These dollar store skulls became creepy cool with some old book pages.  Don't you agree that Latin words are spooky?  Read her tutorial here.

It never surprises me when Jenny from Craft Test Dummies does something fantastic with Mod Podge.  She has a natural knack for decoupage and making things cute.  A regular white craft store pumpkin turned fabulous when Jenny added some clip art and various formulas of Mod Podge - it even won her a finishing spot in Plaid's Trick Your Pumpkin contest!  Here's the full tutorial right here.

Glitter and Halloween are like peas and carrots.  Suzonne from Urban Comfort combines the two with some thrift store finds, and I love the results.  She revamped several other pieces with some graphics from The Graphics Fairy, and you'll need to just see them all for yourself here.

Crow vase, Eek pumpkin and happy Halloween lanterns.

When I mentioned I like the word "Boo" this year, several of you said you were into "Eek."  This pumpkin decoupaged with book pages from Make and Takes is for you.  The ladies from Little Birdie Secrets did it as a guest post, and I especially like the die cut spider with really long legs.  Creepy!  Get the tutorial here.

Black birds are definitely creepy enough for Halloween - Maria from Bubblegum and Duct Tape made them even more so by Mod Podging them to glass bottles and adding some skull decor.  I love that she used a recycled bottle and a few punched shapes.  Simple, and it came together in such a wonderfully spooky way.  Learn more about the project here.

So many things from Halloween are creepy that it makes me smile when I see something happy.  These lanterns from According to Kelly are a perfect example.  These are great for making with kids, and if you are so inclined you can line your Halloween trick-or-treat path with them.  Take a peek at the blog entry about them here.

Free canvas offer - doggie dolittles.

I love freebies, so I'm sharing a recent find with you.  I love it when my readers get it on the freebie action with me!  The Canvas People are having a promotion for a free canvas . . . and all you have to do is pay shipping.  I got mine in the mail, and it is nice.  Way nicer than I thought it was going to be.  It's like a real painting!

I'm thinking of adding some Gloss Brushstroke Mod Podge to give it the fancy, painting-esque touch.  Oh, and I upgraded mine to a 11" x 14" for only $9.99 - what good is a picture of my puggies unless it's huge?  This is a great giftie for the upcoming holiday season.  It's great to get the grandparents who have everything.

Here's what my friend Jen from Tatertots and Jello did with her canvas, and I thought it was so pretty!  Okay, I'm done raving.  Go get your free canvas from the Canvas People right here.

Wallpaper punkins, Halloween village and skull earrings.

Jenny from Crescendoh is a master Mod Podger and a fellow Brave Girl, so that means she is good peeps.  Her wee white wallpaper pumpkins are so cute that I had to share them with you.  The black pom poms also add something special - VERY special.  These are quick to whip up; go here for the tutorial.

If I had to pick a Halloween village to live in, it would be this one made by the Crafty Sisters.  It might be haunted, but it's also very happy.  If you are going to move there with me, I've already called the trick-or-treat birdhouse on top of the blue bat pole.  You can have anywhere else.  This sisters show you the complete construction process here.

What I love about these skulls from Diana at Confessions of a Craftaholic is that they are Halloween appropriate, but they could also be worn all year round.  She made them with a stamp, some watercolor pencils and a hole-punchy thing.  I LOVE the rhinestone eyes - they were the perfect touch.  Tell Diana how much you like them too right here.

More Halloween projects tomorrow, of course.  We're not even close to being done!

Cute silhouettes, google eye wreath and Halloween blocks.

Are you getting excited about this coming weekend? Do you have your Halloween costume laid out? I know, not yet.  Here are some more projects to keep you busy this week.

Tammy from She Wears Flowers does a Brady Bunch-esque silhouette frame.  Instead of bad 70s haircuts and a very understanding maid, you get cute little Halloween silhouettes that you can find on the internet.  I love Tam, because she gets it.  Get the full tutorial here.

I've always thought, "what do people do with their extra googly eyes?"  This is what Chica and Jo did with theirs (and more), and it's brilliant.  They even added glow, and that means I couldn't ask for more.  Learn how to make it here.

Coleen from Coleen's Corner uses a power saw and some digital "dinking around" to produce these awesome vintage Haloween blocks.  Power tools and dinking around are a few of my favorite things, and now I have to add these blocks to that list.  They turned out great.  You can make some too, you just have to visit here.

Halloween birdhouse, ornaments and Eek letters.

Halloween week at Mod Podge Rocks brings many interesting projects - and more than one a day, because I can't get enough of Halloween.

Melissa from Bursts of Creativity gives a birdhouse a much-needed polka dot upgrade with some whimsical characters.  I love the cute Dracula.  Visit the full tutorial here.

At Moda Bakeshop you can learn how to make a Halloween ornament tree (with one of my favorite things to Mod Podge - fabric). Jera from Quilting in the Rain is the guest poster who will teach you how - learn right here.

Haley from The Autocrat blows the typical Halloween sign out of the water with her "eek" version.  She got frustrated with her sign, but I think it's one of my favorites ever!  Visit her here to assure her that she's doing a great job with Mod Podge.

Halloween week is just beginning . . . come back tomorrow for more exciting crafts.

Turquoise BOO and skull wreath.

I'm loving the word "Boo" lately.  There's nothing new about it, but for me it completely sums up my feelings about this Halloween season.  It's my word this year.  I decided it was time to do a little something different this year, perhaps throw a little "wrench into the works" if you will.  This is why you are seeing a skull wreath above that is silver, turquoise and lime green with flowers.  I'm going outside of the box with the Halloween colors, and I hope you'll join me!  Here's how to make this Boo skull wreath.

Quick and easy decoupage e-book.

I'm very excited to let you know that I'm part of a new Plaid e-book called "Quick & Easy Decoupage."  I contributed projects to this book along with my friends Debbie Saenz and Holli Long - you should know that we had a blast putting it together!  The best part?  It's completely free.  Download it from Fave Crafts right here.

Just one more thing - if you haven't joined me on Facebook or YouTube, please do.  There are always new links in the Facebook group (that you can't see here), and I've recently recorded some videos that I think you might enjoy.

Witch Craft book review and a giveaway.

When asked to review Witch Craft, a compilation of projects by Margaret McGuire and Alicia Kachmar, I nearly jumped out of my skin in excitement.  Halloween is my holiday; there's no other way to say it.  I tend to stick with decoupage most of the time (shocker), so I greatly appreciate being given the motivation to try something else - something else like sewing, paper crafts or jewelry.  I'm completely diggin' this crafty compendium.  Here are my five favorite things about Witch Craft.

Crafting with the stars voting.

I'm participating in Crafting with the Stars at Sew Dang Cute.  My partner Amanda worked long hours to get her project to be as wonderful as it is, so please go vote for her.  Can you guess which one is hers?  Vote here.

Boob hats for breast cancer awareness.

Did you know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  I'm reminded each year when I start to see hints of pink in women's wardrobe and shoes around the end of September.  Then yesterday the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk For the Cure started here in Georgia, and the it runs right outside of Mod Podge Command Central.  I think the foundation did that on purpose!  Tee hee.  I always love seeing the women in their pink bunny ears, tutus, wings and glasses.  I have to be honest though, I have never seen boob hats.  When Mary from Hot Potatoes sent me these pictures of these fashionable and funny hats she crafted with papier-mache and Mod Podge, I had to pass them along.  Mary completed her walk in Tennessee in early October, and these hats made it in the Nashville Tennessean!  Her team is pictured above.

A close-up of some lone boob hats for your viewing pleasure.  Mary says "my hands are permanently covered in Mod Podge."  So are mine Mary, so are mine.

This is definitely my favorite picture.  This woman is a 35 year survivor of breast cancer.  I can't stop smiling.

If you've ever lost someone to breast cancer (or any other cancer), please leave a comment.  My great-grandmother Leta died of breast cancer and then I lost my grandmother Beverly to colon cancer when she was 57.  To learn more, head to Susan G. Komen For the Cure or to the American Cancer Society.  Together hopefully we can stamp out this stinky disease.

Fall overhaul: Mod Podge boots.

I have big feet, and so when I saw these cute, dainty boots it made me smile.  But that is Cathie Filian for you!  She's very cute, and she's also a fabulous Mod Podger.  Cathie is one of the reasons I got started on this crazy Mod Podging journey, and why I'm here with you today.  She could tell you stories about Mod Podge Rocks . . . it looked TERRIBLE when I first started!  I wish I had a screenshot.  You would laugh.

Cathie is particularly good at revamping items with Mod Podge, and these boots are no exception.  You can do it too, because Cathie gives you the full tutorial right here.

Crafty BOO necklace for Halloween.

I've always wanted a spooky necklace.  I'm not even that much of a jewelry person, but I like Halloween so much that I think it deserves something a little special.  I wasn't quite sure what I was doing when I started the project (like so many projects I begin), but I knew I wanted to use the Melody Ross Chip Art goodies from GCD Studios.  With my huge Halloween stash, the "bling" wasn't a problem, and everything came together to make this fun necklace.  I like it because it's fun without looking too childish.  Here's how I did it.

Personalized bathroom hooks. For organizing.

Organizing to the level of Jen from I Heart Organizing is something that I'm really not capable of on my own - hence my blog name is "Mod Podge Rocks" and not "Organizing Rocks."  Organizing doesn't rock for me, in fact, it's pretty hard.  People like Jen inspire me with these type of posts because they think of the things that I don't, and I can learn how to be good at something I'm not.  I dream of a bathroom where everything is in its nice little place, and I think these bathroom hooks are pretty wonderful for that.  Jen used little wood plaques, and they are very Anthropologie-esque.  Do you remember the kitchen canister that Jen Mod Podged?  This is another job, well done!  Visit here for the complete instructions.

Handmade stained glass tray.

Did you know that you can make your own stained glass with Mod Podge?  I didn't until I saw this post from Kimberly at Bugaboo, Mini Mr & Me.  What I love about Kimberly's version is that it's completely non-toxic and, most importantly, easy!  You are going to love her transformation - Kimberly turns the stained glass piece into a tray using a frame and purse handles.  It's brilliant, really.  Visit here for the complete tutorial.

Oh, and guess what?  I'm on YouTube now.  Visit the Mod Podge Rocks channel to see what I look like in real life.

Light up umbrella holder.

I love umbrellas.  I used to have a duck umbrella named Sherman.  Don't ask, I was in my early twenties, and I had time to name inanimate objects.  I do have an unintended umbrella collection of sorts, and so when I spotted this light up umbrella holder on DIY Life, I had to share.  I'm proud of Mod Podge when it goes uber-stylish with projects such as this one.  DIY Life found this project in the newly released book from Curbly called Make It! Hardware Store Decor.  The good news is that they provide the full instructions with pictures right here.

Fabric and Fabric Mod Podge giveaway.

Take a peek at the pic - awesome piles of fabric and some Fabric Mod Podge.  You want it, don't you?  You have the chance to win!  Five chances, actually.  Fabric Mod Podge is one of my favorite formulas, as you can plainly see from projects like my owl table, key portrait and embroidery hoops.   I want you to enjoy playing with Fabric Mod Podge too, so I'm passing along some fabric I received from a distributor who provides fat quarters to stores like Michaels, Jo-Ann and A.C. Moore.  Here are the rules for this giveaway.

1. Comment on THIS blog entry. What will you do with the fabric and Fabric Mod Podge?
2. Only one entry per person.  There are FIVE chances to win - each person will get a bottle of Fabric Mod Podge and a stack of random fabric fat quarters you see above.
3. Contest will close this Wednesday, October 20th at midnight (EST).

Stefeni won the eco-friendly haunted house giveaway.

One tool many ways - a canvas tutorial.

Do you remember Cheryl, the very talented Mod Podging Fiskateer?  She's done it again, which is really no surprise.  I'm in love with her mixed media canvas, and I'm really amazed because it was created using basic shapes (the one tool is a circle punch).  This canvas is also a stash buster, because Cheryl used many items to embellish that she already had on hand.  If you saw my paper and embellishment collection, you would know that I could probably make 50 of these and still have stuff left over.  Mod Podge Command Central is basically a one-room craft closet.

You need to head over to Cheryl's blog and see the pictures as she walks you through the process of her canvas creation.  If you are thinking of doing some mixed media and you don't know where to begin, then Cheryl's blog is perfect place.  Visit her here, and I promise you'll be creating a canvas of your own in no time.

I upcycled a table and used owl fabric on top.

I think you are going to be proud of me for this one.  I re-did a table.  Call me the DIY queen!  I'm kidding, but I am pleased with the results.  The table is colorful like I am (kind way of saying goofball), and I absolutely love the owl fabric I Mod Podged to the top.  I'd like to walk you through this table re-do because, if you are afraid of doing this to a table on your own, you won't be afraid after this tutorial.  There are several steps, but if you have patience and give yourself the time to complete the project, you are going to have fun and love the results.  As usual, let's jump in.

Have you visited Craft Test Dummies?

My friend Jenny from Craft Test Dummies is having a Mod Podge week!  What's up her sleeve this time?  Mod Podge Outdoor.  She's got a great review of it here.  Another reason you should visit her is because every day this week, you can win some Mod Podge.  The drawing isn't until Monday.
Don't forget to read her reviews on classic Mod Podge, Mod Podge Glitter and Mod Podge Shimmer.  You can win those too by leaving a comment.  So what are you waiting for?  Get over to Jenny's, pronto!

Stiffy fox lamp with matsutake.

I'm completely breaking the rules, but that shouldn't surprise you.  I bet you can guess that rule breaking is totally how I roll, but let me note that this attitude never applied to parents or school.  Those were two things I didn't mess with.  Right, mom?

So how am I breaking the rules, you ask?  This isn't a Mod Podge project - it's a Stiffy project.  A fox lamp actually, by Katie of Matsutake.  But I hope you will forgive me, because Stiffy is Mod Podge's country cousin.  I also know that you are laughing about the name right now, but this is serious!

I can always count on Katie to do the coolest crafts, and apparently you can always count on me for some serious alliteration.  This fox lamp is amazing, and I want you to see the full tutorial here.  Another reason to visit?  Katie is doing a Stiffy giveaway - just leave a comment to win.

Mod Podge fabric memo board with Georgia Peachez.

Suzy from Georgia Peachez recently got her hands on some Fabric Mod Podge, and I'm loving what she thought up.  Check out this corkboard that she covered with fabric bits - not only is it utilitarian and budget friendly, but it's stinkin' cute!  Suzy is even more awesome because she made a video showing you how to use the goods.

And guess what.

Suzy is having a Fabric Mod Podge giveaway - visit here to enter (and to see her cool project/video).  I promise you want some Fabric Mod Podge.  It's amazing.

Mod Podge week on Craft Test Dummies.

Sometimes it's good to know that I'm not the only one who loves Mod Podge.  I'm going to be honest; it validates my addiction!  My friend Jenny from Craft Test Dummies is having a Mod Podge Week, and I "highly recommend" that you attend.  That means (in parent talk) that you have to be there.

Jenny's blog is one you are going to like - lots of craft projects, reviews, events and news.  You can win Mod Podge every day this week, so head on over by clicking her logo above.

Painted and Podged acorns.

If you are wondering what I think about it my spare time, then let me give you a clue.  Painted acorns.  I recently filmed some Mod Podge videos, and outside the studio door were some enormously wonderful acorns.  Like a good Mod Podger, instead of thinking about them as squirrel food, I thought about what I could do with them that would be crafty and fun.

Paint them, of course.

Upcycle a boring kitchen storage canister.

I'm a huge fan of acrylic paint, but I'm also a huge fan of spray paint.  Both are good for different applications, and this is a case where spray paint rocks the hizzy.  Jen from iHeart Organizing picked the most lovely shade of avocado when she revamped her kitchen canisters.  I can hear my mom telling me that she used to have canisters just like this in the 70's, and me responding that she should have kept them, because canisters like this are awesome.  I'm inspired to create my own thanks to Jen, and I'm picturing something orange next to this avocado.  Visit the complete tutorial here.

Cake Pops by Bakerella book review and giveaway.

You probably won't be surprised to know that I'm not much of a cook or a baker. If Mod Podge were an ingredient then it might be different, but then again, everything would stick to your colon.  And that wouldn't be pretty.  Heh heh.  You should know that even as a non-cook and non-baker, I LOVE Bakerella.  Who hasn't been to her blog?  It's beautiful.  Her baked goods are beautiful.  So when I had the opportunity to review Cake Pops by Angie Dudley (Bakerella herself!), I jumped.  I think the best thing about Bakerella is that she has no formal training - she decided she loved something and dove in.  Her story is so inspiring, and it comes out in her book.  I'm impressed at her accomplishments.

Sammy the littlest Podger.

Meet Sammy!  I like to call him Sammeh.  He is the son of my friend Megan and grandson of my friends Holli and Patty - isn't he the cutest thing?  Sammy is two, and he is very special.  He loves to Mod Podge.  As a Mod Podge blogger, it is obviously my responsibility to do interviews with Mod Podge lovers.  But before we get into that, I would like you to watch Sammy Mod Podging.  This is one of the sweetest videos I've ever seen.

Eco friendly haunted dollhouse, with a giveaway.

It all started when Sarah from Dolls and Daydreams sent me the picture above.  It's a dollhouse that she created out of a cardboard box, a cardboard box that would have otherwise gone into the garbage or landfill, and now it's a toy.  It's sort of like the pyramids of ancient Egypt too in the way that it fits together without tape or glue.  Although I promise you the construction phase is much easier than that of the Sphinx.

Sarah created a pattern for the dollhouse, and she also created some graphics to cover the dollhouse and the cute little wood peg people you see in the photo.  Then she started selling them in her Etsy shop.  How does it all come together?  Mod Podge.  In fact, Sarah is providing you with a tutorial for the peg people.  Here we go.

Gather These Supplies
Printer
Scissors
Mod Podge
Sharpie Pen
Paintbrush
Sponge applicator
Acrylic paint
Wooden peg dolls

You simply cut out the outfits (already sized for standard peg dolls) and paint the head of the peg doll a skin tone.
Using a sponge applicator, place a thin layer of Mod Podge to the wooden doll and wrap the paper outfit around the base.

Using more Mod Podge, seal down the tail piece.

Now place some Mod Podge along the top edge of the paper and smooth the paper down so that it lies snuggly up against your peg doll body using your finger (almost done! See I told you they were quick!) Now do the same with the bottom. While it's drying, pick your hair color.  Paint your hair on, and using my mini templates and a red and black Sharpie, draw on the faces.  Coat the entire doll with Mod Podge … and let them dry.  You’re done! Hooray!

Sarah and I were chatting online about her cute dollhouse and peg people, and we came up the most awesome conclusion.  Sarah would make a Halloween version, and then give it away here on the blog.  Check it out:

Like I said, Sarah is giving away the dollhouse pattern and haunted dollhouse graphics to one of you!  Here are the rules:

1. Comment on THIS blog entry. Who would you make this dollhouse for?
2. Only one entry per person.
3. Contest will close this coming Tuesday, October 12th at midnight (EST).
4. PLEASE leave your e-mail address if it's not attached in Blogger - I need some way to reach you.

If you want to see Sarah's goodies or go ahead and buy her patterns, visit her Etsy shop here.
